Hello Post4VPS Community

A few weeks ago but also very recently I have been asked multiple times to write reviews for VPSs or for help with how to write a review. Unfortunately I don't really have time to write reviews or test servers. Some of you may have noticed that the last time I have published a review was more than several years ago.

I decided to write up a little collection of resources that help to write reviews, test your servers and gather data that you can present in reviews. I hope this will help a little to answer the question "How do I write a review and what do I need for a review?". Let's start!

What do we need to measure the performance of our server? Basically we need benchmarking software or benchmarking scripts. The following benchmarking software will allow you to test your CPU and RAM performance.

Geekbench - https://www.geekbench.com/
Installation & Usage Guide: https://mangolassi.it/post/418821

Byte Unixbench - https://github.com/kdlucas/byte-unixbench
Installation & Usage Guide: https://www.ostechnix.com/unixbench-benc...e-systems/

The next tools that we need are also either scripts or a program to test the network speed and latency of our server. Below is a little list of tools for this purpose.

Speedtest-CLI - https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli
Installation & Usage Guide: https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli#j...used-to-be

wget or curl:
Simply look for speed test files which you can download via wget or curl and record the results of the download together with the location of the test server of the speed test file.

To gather general information about your server such as the exact amount of RAM + Swap, the CPU used in the host node and other information there are a couple of scripts. Most of the scripts will also provide a network speed test and a speed test for the disk of the VPS.

You can find them here: https://github.com/haydenjames/bench-scr.../README.md

You can also test the performance of the storage disk of your VPS with several other tools. Most scripts from above actually use a Linux inbuilt tool called "dd" to test the speed of the disk.

Another software to test the disk speed is "hdparm". hdparm can do much more than just speed testing though.

More information about disk speed testing: https://www.shellhacks.com/disk-speed-te...nce-linux/

About writing the review there are only a few simple things I can say. Be honest. Don't hide the bad things - this doesn't represent a good review. Don't just post the benchmarks without comments. Write about your personal experience about the VPS and its performance. How does it feel to use it? Did you encounter any issues so far? Comment on the benchmarks if you can. All those things are important. Just the bare benchmarks are not a review!

Take other reviews and their structure as a role model or help if you think they're written well and look good. Using some of the elements from good reviews can help building your own. I don't mean copying and pasting though!

I hope this is useful information for you.

Control Panel

VPS 18 does not have any control panel. I thought that a VPS is useless without a control panel, but VPS 18 has totally changed my mind, I have installed all required things for my game-server and blog without any problem and running it successfully. In previous VPS's I used I faced many problems during packages installation and firewall settings. But VPS 18 is working very well. I had to face the server restart problem via the terminal in the past. I haven't tried the reboot command yet. But I believe that it will work.

Usage

I am currently using my VPS for a game server and running one WordPress blog. Everything is running very smoothly. I have installed everything easily without any problem. It makes me feel like it comes with branded packages. Just single line command installations. Heart everything.

Conclusion

I don't have words to say, Everything is over here. Support, performance and everything is mind-blowing. Words cannot express my feelings, nor my thanks for all your services.
A big thanks to Post4VPS Staff especially @deanhills, @Pacific Spirit and @Hidden Refuge

Sorry for my bad English. It is my first review, sorry if I missed something.

Wam I'thinking about domain buying for my site. If I want good site I should buy domain with good name. I currently have .gq domain. But it's freenom and they can sometimes take your domain.

My site name is HTPC. Unfortunately most of the popular domains are occupied. There is no chance to buy htpc.com, .pl, .biz, .info or .net. There are new TLD domain such as .club, .media, .site, .tech, .top. Some of them are already taken.

What do you think will be a good domain?
1. .one (htpc.one)
2. .club (htpc.club)
3. .tech (htpc.tech)
4. other - please answer by reply on this thread.

Domain .tech is good and cheap to buy, but renewal ~40$ is not cheap for free hobby site. Domains .club and .one are more expensive in buying but cheaper to renewal.

Please help me to choose a good domain.

A gaming phone with some meaty hardware including the Snapdragon 855 Plus, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and a 6,000mAh battery should get its global reveal today at the IFA trade show. To is is rumoured to run Android 9 Pie. Connectivity options on the Asus ROG Phone 2 are said to include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, Wi-Fi Direct, 3G, and 4G. Sensors on the phone are rumoured to include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor.

In my opinion it's great to hear about a phone with a similar specifications to a gaming PC! What are your opinions?

This announcement doesn't apply to members who have been posting quality tutorials in the Tutorials Forum, or are planning to post quality tutorials.  Dynamo and the Staff welcome your quality tutorials, provided that the content is "fresh", original, and completely your own contribution.

But, PLEASE do not copy and paste tutorials from the Internet and then try and "jazz it up" to look like your own.  Any of those kinds of tutorials will be removed from the Forum from now on.   Popular tutorials like how to change a user name in a WordPress database of which there are hundreds on the Web will not be allowed.  Unless you've got a completely different and unique way of doing the same thing that one won't find on the Web.

I'm sure some of our members have noticed the Tutorial Forum being filled up with lengthy nonsense tutorials off late, with obvious intent to boost the member's credit points.  That was never the intention of the Tutorials Forum.  If you check the objective of the Forum, it's to post Tutorials with original content only, i.e. one won't find the content anywhere on the Web.  Now and then of course, even with quality tutorials, one has to take something from the Web, and if and when you do, please make sure to put what you took from another Website in quotes and provide a link to the source of the material.  Plagiarism is not allowed, especially with tutorials as well.  Latter may earn you a warning.   Note that from now on Staff will be scrutinizing the Tutorials Section very closely.

For our more experienced members of the Forum, if you do see a tutorial that looks "off", i.e. a topic mismatch with the content, or the content doesn't quite make sense, please use the report tool to report the tutorial.  This will be much appreciated.

As the title says, do you think the battle royale will survive after this year?
In my opinion, no. Because all of them are the same, and the only difference is the game mechanics

Does anyone know any websites which gives free game servers? After FireFly went down I came across fshost.me . They have a lot of free servers available starting from call of duty 2 to insurgency sandstorm (quite surprised).
