CacheOut - "A new speculative execution attack that is capable of leaking data from Intel CPUs across many security boundaries."

Another security issue has been found in the design of Intels CPUs reaching back to productions from 2018. As the heading says this security hole allows to leak data across many different security measures made by Intel to prevent data leaks. Compared to the old MDS issue this new issue is way more serious because an attack can decide what data he wants to be leaked while MDS only allowed data to be leaked that was loaded into the CPU and was only leakable while it was processed by the CPU.

What is affected? Well, all products from NOW going back to 2018. A list is available here: https://software.intel.com/security-soft...n-sampling

CacheOut page: https://cacheoutattack.com/

Is AMD affected? No, AMD is not affected. Only Intel is affected because only Intel has the TSX Asynchronous Abort (TAA) feature on their CPUs.

Mitigation for the issue is available. Probably at the cost of more perforamnce (not confirmed, yet).

Hello everyone,
I need some help deciding the best laptop to buy for a friend under certain conditions which I am going to mention below. First, let me tell you that I know I can google and all. Still I wanted to see what you would go for in my situation. So here goes the details,

She works at a power distribution corporation and she is paying for her own laptop. There is no hard budget constraint, but she does not want to go for surface pro or some such costly blingy top class amazing piece of tech just for the fun. What she wants is

1) be able to run softwares to design and analyse electrical and electronic ( i guess) circuits and analyse them on it.

2) All normal communication, media consumption and browsing stuff without a hitch. That is a given.

3) She has a desktop and so is not too concerned about being able to play games on it.

4) Good backup. That might be a no brainer for some.

5) Hopefully a processor and graphics system that stays relevant for the next couple years. I am thinking Ryzen mobile APU with vega or Intel 10th gen mobile ones here.

SO ... I dunno. Budget might be 40 or 50 thousand or even more. Just do your best. A couple thousand more or less does not matter. But it should add some value and be justifiable.

I would like some personal input from your replies. Please dont post random comments or copy or rewrite stuff from internet.

I dont mind you mentioning a very latest article talking about the latest gen laptops that just came out in the market and with some good analysis and valid points though.

Thanks a lot.

I received a few minutes ago at 4:37 PM GMT 01 + 00 Amsterdam / Netherlands. An email about a security issue from WHMCS. Since here are a number of providers who use it, I am sure that they have been informed of the same email content that I have received.

[EMAIL CONTENT]
Hello,

We are writing to advise you of a potential security vulnerability when htaccess directives are not enforced appropriately for WHMCS. This most commonly occurs in web server environments such as nginx.

Affected Versions

WHMCS 6.0 and later

How to tell if you're affected

If the following file is readable from a web browser, then you need to investigate and apply appropriate configurations for your web server environment.

https://www.example.com/path/to/whmcs/ve...er/LICENSE
A verification tool has also been made available to assist in determining if your web server environment is affected. This tool can be downloaded here.

How to fix the vulnerability

Please follow the instructions provided in the detailed security advisory:

WHMCS Security Advisory 2020-01-28

WHMCS is here to help, if you are unsure if your system is enforcing .htaccess directives you can open a support ticket for assistance.

Kind regards,
WHMCS
[END OF MESSAGE]
To do this, proceed as follows.
1.) Download the file: Security Advisory 2020-01-28 Verification Tool
2.) Upload the file in the WHMCS path.
3.) Enter the following address in your browser: (SSL) (WHMCS) https://your.domain/security_advisory_20...n_tool.php - or to the folder where your WHMCS is set.
4.) Perform the check and this script will tell you if your WHMCS version is infected. If your WHMCS is not infected with the security issue, you can remove the check at the bottom of the page (recommended).
5.) If you are infected, make sure that you solve this problem as soon as possible follow these links to their docs page: https://docs.whmcs.com/Security_Advisory_2020-01-28. Can't you solve it? Open a support ticket at WHMCS so that they can help you further.

(Inform for users at hostlease, our WHMCS is not infected!)

How many of you use Windows 10 in your Desktops or Laptops ? What do you think of the system compared to Windows 7 ? mention if you are using 32 bit or 64bit version and how much RAM do you have.
I need to format my Desktop very soon. I'm still between which OS to choice, Windows 7 or Windows 10. I don't mind about the support so I probbly gonna use Windows 7 for another year or 6 months depending on how things work for me. So the support is not my problem.
My Setup has Core i5-3350 processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM So Im using Windows 7 64bit version. I had bit of trouble installing Python 64bit and configure it with visual Studio Code.Apart from that everything else worked fine. I'm going to test this Python setup again before I format the PC. If I can get it work Im going stay with Windows 7 till next format.
I heard mix stuff about Windows 10. Everyone agree this version loads faster and it takes more RAM than Windows 7 which would be normal. It seems not everyone like the new app Store things. I kind of like it.

Hello Folks,

So AMD has been slowly unveiling new graphics cards in the RX 5000 series starting with the 5700 XT. AMD recently launched the 5600 XT, the specs and performance were mainly known already thanks to CES, and It was priced competitively against Nvidia's 1660 Ti/1060/2060 however AMD failed to anticipate one of the oldest tricks in the books of marketing. Just a few days before the official launch, Nvidia introduced price cuts in their own lineup deducting 50$! from RTX 2060 bringing it on par(on price) with the 5700 XT. This created massive panic at AMD and they had to introduce a vBIOS update just before launch however some cards had already shipped with the older bios which meant the board distributors couldn't update all the cards on time. This resulted in a bad image for the consumer side, updating the vBios isn't something too hard but It does add extra steps to the consumer which should've been done from the very start.

There are rumors going on that the next members of the lineup, mainly the RX 5800 and 5900 (or even 5950) would be able to surpass the current high-end tier of Nvidia however It is also being widely speculated that Nvidia's new RTX 3000 series is coming up in June/July meaning AMD will once again be far behind its competitors (like always), which is just not just bad for AMD but for the consumers as well because monopoly means Nvidia can price their cards whatever they want and get away with it.

Looks like the death toll from the new coronavirus has passed 100 mark. All Chinese for now but infected cases are discovered in many other countries. Can this be this be the plague of 21st century ?

I noticed in social media many blame the reason for this as eating snake meat, bat meat etc. Maybe it's because most of the frist cases were those who visisted large animal and seafood market in Wuhan. But these guys have been eating these meat for thusands of years and why suddenly now ? I wonder if this is some sort of  BioWarfare experince gone wrong.

Hey guys,

Since some of you are asking for "How can i earn money", i am thinking of sharing this cryptocurrency with you all...

"Pi Network" a new cryptocurrency which is developed by few Stanford Members.
*Note: This is still in early stage, as of now it is not even worth a penny...

The interesting part of Pi Network is that you can start mining with your phone, you don't need any special equipment's like ASIC's or GPU's. All you need is your phone.

Like Bitcoin, early adopters get an advantage, because they can mine at a higher rate.

Pi Network app is available on Google Play or App store.

Use invitation code jagathkd, and happy mining.
Wink

Hello friends . I need some professional software to compress my site images. Note . (Compression of images) Not files or anything. As you know, the amount of images you put on your website also affects the SEO of your website. (This is an important point. Friends who have a website are sure to pay attention).
