I thought to write this thread because of the recent discussion about sponsor backlinks. It was not practical to ask a backlink from those who don't run a web server and forcing them to set-up a page just for this is even can do more damage can any good. We all can agree on one thing. When you look at the server list we have today these sponsors truly deserve something worthy in return., Something more than a review, signature link, and a backlink.

So what do they really expect in return? I think all sponsors like their brand to be more popular and to get more paid customers. This is why we provide a Review, Signature links even backlinks, if possible in return. Can we do more than that to help them? Definitely!

So let's see what we offer already, Signature link - Well, it's nice, better than nothing but it's not gonna be much help. A backlink is better but I know not many of us can offer once and even if there are websites not exactly gonna make a huge impact in today's SEO. Unless you have a decent site with authority on Web Hosting. So the review is what really takes the cake.

So let's see how does a proper review would help our sponsors. In simple reviews gonna be ranked in Google if you do it properly. And potential customers will see those. Also if someone wants to research the provider and search in Google, the person will see many cool reviews and get positive vibes.

Now, what is a proper review? Here, I know many believe posting a bunch of benchmarks is the most important part of a review. Sadly it's not. It might look nice but it doesn't let the sponsor. Google doesn't read screenshots and the average customer would care about it either. They want to hear good things about the provider, personal experience, something more than one line saying how amazing the provider. They like to listen to it from someone like them. And if it's a seasoned hosting buyer for professional use, they would go to the provider and talk and ask for a 3-day trial and find out themselves. Someone like that wouldn't believe in someone else screenshots.

It's like reading a label of Jam bottle. Sure it says about expire date, ingredients, manufacture but everyone can read those. It won't give you an idea of the taste. You have to taste the jam and tell what you feel about it. Writing "Taste" doesn't do any good either.

So if you want to write a good review then you need to do more than a bunch of benchmarks. It starts with the title "VPS",  "Hosting", "Review" keywords are important. people search for these in Google. Then you can post those benchmarks if you want but you need to write more. Like for what you are using the VPS and how it's working for you. Also need to write about the provider and paid packages they offer and their features. Make sure to use the brand name in several places and link back to their packages page.

Also, you have to keep your review thread alive. Don't let it buried down under other reviews and die. Add something to the time to time. Ask questions from the sponsor if they have a rep in the forum.

If you can't provide a Backlink ----

There is a way you can give your sponsor something more valuable than a backlink. There are sites where you can write a small review and rate a web hosting provider. If you do this it will help your sponsor more than a backlink.

01. Google Review - This is the first place where you should rate your sponsor. Type in Google " Sponsor Google Review " You will see the current review and where to rate on the right side of the result.

02. Facebook Review - If you have a FB account and Sponsor has a page then Like, Rate, and write a small review.

03. Twitter - If you have a Twitter account then make a Tweet about your sponsor.

04. Rating sites - There are many of those. Here are few examples.

So here are few methods on how to give something back which would make your sponsor happy.

Hi
I recently met a video conferencing software which can be installed in Ubuntu. BigBlueButton works on html5 web browsers including android. You can have  a demo in the below link.
https://test.bigbluebutton.org
This is not available on Cent OS.
Did you ever use such a video conference tool in Cent OS? There seems to be many alternatives but some are paid, I would like to do this free of cost.
Suggest me the best alternative.

Hello everyone!
In the morning PUBG mobile, PUBG Lite and PUBG PC just got temporarily banned in Pakistan. In a city there was a case where a teenager killed himself because of the game because he was losing or something i'm not sure what the news was. PUBG Mobile is pretty famous now in Pakistan, Even Pakistani Servers for PUBG Mobile launched, This has never happened before! There are alots of cases of suicide because of PUBG. My question is that, I'm playing counter-strike for over 12 years, Semi-professionally, Casually, I almost had 16K hours in CS 1.6.

My points are.

1. PUBG is rated 16+. I'm not blaming but if you see your brother playing PUBG for 16 or 17 hours straight how would you feel? Aren't you gonna do something about it? I have seen children of age 9 or 10 maximum playing PUBG and they have personal mobiles i'm not sure who to blame even. Sometimes, I even play CSGO for maybe even 13 hours and even i know what pressure is and what stress is at professional level.

2. PUBG is now a growing title in Pakistan, Many tournaments are being hosted and even RedBull hosted a tournament and it was going well. The last tournament was of 7000$. It's have a good scene in eSport scene in Pakistan. Yet they banned it

3. You have to register VPN now! You cannot use an un-registered VPN in pakistan, VPN are being blocked, which is pretty weeird, but people are now buying Paid VPN to bypass.

I want your reviews and little bit of opinions on this matter!

This study published in a very important journal says,

if even half the population wear good masks carefully, then it will have enough overall impact to halt the exponential growth in patient numbers.

https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/f....2020.0376

So our question is, what constitutes a good mask then ?

here is a study that says stitched quilting cotton fabric face mask is best in stopping the tiny droplet jets.

https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/5.0016018

it uses two layers. I read somewhere that WHO is recommending to use 3 layers.

so now you know the material.

about design... it should match with your face as best as possible to minimize air getting in n out through the sides. so face hugging designs are better.

please don't use those tiny bands of clothes with elastic bands on both ends. they are shyte.

here is a Washington post link with great DIY mask design guide.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/20...rc404=true

EDIT. PLEASE DON'T USE MUSKS WITH VALVE. the valve let's you exhale easily. but it increases risk for others. musk is meant to protect those wearing it as well as others around them.

For the last two days I had an issue with Microsoft .NET Framework on my computer.  Immediately after login it would come up with the following error message:

Quote:Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quick, the application closes immediately.

This of course was very scary for me, since I'm still on Windows 7.  I immediately thought this was the reason for it.  That I needed an update or something that will never come as Windows 7 is no longer supported.

Has this happened to any one else before?

Any way, I then went to Google for help, and found lots of help at this discussion on the Microsoft Support Forum.  It had happened to someone else before.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...31014601b1

I then did the first thing suggested which was to download the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool that the Microsoft Moderator recommended.  I then followed the steps until it made a suggestion for deregistering the Windows installation.  And of cause stopped right there.  As it sounded too serious, and I didn't have the foggiest what this meant.

I then went back to the above discussion where the person who was being helped said that the repair tool had fixed the problem for a week only, and then the problem reoccurred, and it was only then that the Microsoft Moderator pointed him in the direction of the possibility of a software conflict with a third party anti-virus.

Bingo!  I had loaded MalwareBytes over the weekend when I wanted to check my computer thoroughly.  I hadn't used MalwareBytes in a long time.  Any way, I then uninstalled MalwareBytes immediately, and so far the error message hasn't come up again.

So if this should ever happen to someone else.  Looks like Microsoft .NET Framework has the potential for software conflict with anti-virus software.

Hello,
I have lost access to my hard drive, it is damaged now. Currently I have no other hard disk to replace the damaged one. I have Ubuntu software in my pendrive, I can start live session of Ubuntu with it. But the issue is I lose installed apps in next boot.
Is there anyway to keep the updates on next boot while using live session?

As the title says, what do you think about anti-DDos protection?
Does your VPS (standard paid plan or sponsored) have it?
Did you ever experience an attack? How did you handle it?

These are simple questions that, if you own a VPS, you will face someday. There is nothing to hide, I have experience it, at least 3 time with different systems.
As for my experience I can say that publishing your RAW IP address on the big internet is very dangerous.
These are a lot of attacks that can target you:
  • HTTP attack
  • SYN attack
  • NTP attack
  • SSH brute force
  • ICMP attack
  • Minecraft's sever attack (I am not joking, they flood the sever with ad-hoc simulated login requests)
  • ect...
The criminals just need your IP address, with simple software such as NMAP they can scan your entire port set and know what are you using.

When it will happen?
Well there isn't a specific moment, as soon as you publish something on the WEB you are in danger. There are services such as CDN that helps you hiding your real IP address but there are some exceptions:
  • To use SSH you need to access via the real IP address, CDN can't forward SSH.
  • When you want to host a game server you need to publish your real ip, CDN can't forward game traffic.
  • Free CDN services are limited, for example they cover only the 3rd level domain, if you need some nested domain you are naked.
  • Service such as mail servers, torrents are ignored by CDN, you are naked.
What you can do to protect yourself?
You can only prevent the leak of your IP address. If it has leaked and an attack is performed there are very few chance that you, as a VPS's provider customer, can handle it. You can shutdown your VPS but the traffic will always reach your provider's network.
Speaking of what action you can do:
  • Shutdown whatever is not necessary at that moment;
  • DON'T REJECT THE TRAFFIC, you let it be dropped with a HUGE timeout, so you can slow down the criminal
  • Be sure to use a CDN service which provides minimal protection
All I have said util now is useful when your own a VPS without a anti-ddos protection, when you have such protection mostly of the attack will be handled by experts and proper hardware thanks to the providers, we are speaking of:
  • Hardware firewall
  • Blackhole where redirect criminals' traffic
  • Proper IP filtering systems
So, let's end this little talk: after reading such things and how easy is to get targeted, what do you think? Should anti-ddos protection be a must-have for every VPS? Should be a paid or included service?

I am just a user, I am not aware of how complex is to setup such protection on providers'end. I am very curious, so if any provider read this, let us know what mean to setup a anti-ddos protection! Smile
