I'm wondering whether there are still members like me who are using Windows 7.  As you all know, Microsoft will stop updates of Windows 7 from middle of this month - January 2020 - so obviously wants use of Windows 7 to stop.  For those who are on automatic updates very soon you will be receiving one of those pesky "pop-up" updates - in this case KB4493132 - which will display pop up notifications reminding end-of-life Windows 7 users to upgrade to Windows 10.  

I'm not on automatic updates as have been having issues with the updates from 2017 along the lines of serious conflicts.  Microsoft was then bundling the updates in one huge roll out every so many months and when my VPN stopped working as a result I had to turn the updates off.

TechRadar recommends that use be discontinued:

So purpose of this thread is to figure out what the next step should be.  What will you be doing?  Will you be upgrading to Windows 10, or will you be moving into a Linux GUI direction?  And if it's Linux GUI, what distribution will you be using - or have been successfully using as an alternative for a while now?  My ideal would be to go into the Linux direction, but am concerned that some of my Microsoft software won't be working any longer.  Also I know for a fact some of my software will stop working with Windows 10.

Alternatively, can one find a free version of Windows 10? Any recommendations?

I have several of those,
1. I need a new car! I have been living in city central for too long and it's been a while since I owned a car. This year I'm planning to move to the borders of the city and work remotely. So I think I'm gonna need a car even though I can take a bus without a problem.
2. I need to master python by the end of the year 2020. This is something I have postponed too long.
3. In 2020, I need to start workout and swimming again. 2019 was not great for healthwise. So I was not doing much of this stuff.

I am currently looking for a few people who are willing to spend a little of their time, a few GBs of bandwidth and a tiny bit of compute power to test the development branch of my bench.sh 2.0 server benchmarking script. With this branch I will be pushing fixes and new features before releasing them to the productive master branch. It is also simply meant to be a testing environment.

Today afternoon I spent hours thinkering and working on a fix for a issue related to the disk speed tests and the calculation of the average speed of the disk. In all previous years and still even nowadays the disk speed has mostly never reached values of over 1 Gigabyte/s. Nowadays with SSD RAIDs and NVMe SSDs this is very much possible.

The script didn't account for that and so the calculation of mixed speed test results like let's "768 MB/s, 1.2 GB/s and 890 MB/s" was always messed up and incorrect. The GB/s values were not accounted for properly and the average speed was too low. This is what I was working on today.

My current problem is that I need testing of the new calculation routines on a real server or VPS that reaches over 1 GB/s on the disk speed test. I simply don't have such a server. I could only test the new calculation routines with hard coded values for speed test results.

How can you help me? That's actually easy. If you have a server that reaches such high disk speed please run a few cycles of the development version of bench.sh 2.0 on your server and post the results here.

I am opening this thread to share our greeting for the on-going celebrations!

Recently companies have started releasing foldable tech, which I still consider an "evolving tech", as It's still very very expensive and not worth yet, Samsung and Motorola were two major companies who have revealed some foldable tech tho there are several others..OnePlus might be up to something too as the company recently said they'd be revealing something that is an "alternative" to the usual mobile phones.

Experts have pointed out that Its most likely going to be their iteration of a foldable phone, So far I like Motorola's version more than Samsung's but its impressive what these companies can make, and more competition is always good for the consumers so I hope if OnePlus does actually end up releasing a foldable phone, Its not a total flop and is somewhat a unique approach to the foldable tech.
