How much of you started using PHP 7 version?
I have installed it through webstatic and works faster than old PHP version.
Lot of deprecated functions are removed from this version.
Have you installed PHP 7?

DigitalOcean 512MB RAM VPS Review

Introduction
I have been using DigitalOcean for hosting my primary webserver since April 2014. I then received the GitHub Education which includes $100 free credits on DigitalOcean, so I host there for free  Cool

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Specifications-

512MB RAM
Single-Core Intel Xeon Processor
20GB SSD Disk
1TB Transfer

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Benchmarks

FreeVPS Benchmark Script V2 made by Hidden Refuge

Code:
System Info
-----------
Processor       : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2630L v2 @ 2.40GHz
CPU Cores       : 1
Frequency       : 2399.998 MHz
Memory          : 490 MB
Swap            : 0 MB
Uptime          : 137 days, 21:32,

OS              : Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Arch            : x86_64 (64 Bit)
Kernel          : 3.13.0-57-generic
Hostname        : vps.MYBUSINESS.eu

Well, those specs look great  Smile
Unfortunately the benchmark script didn't finish... for some weird reason.
Look at that Xeon E5! Really nice CPU.

I/O Speed

Code:
I/O (1st run)   : 305 MB/s
I/O (2nd run)   : 338 MB/s
I/O (3rd run)   : 304 MB/s
Average I/O     : 333 MB/s
Yeah, those speeds rock! However not really the SSD speeds I reach here at home, but they're fine for usage. Still faster than a lot of HDD VPS servers.

Control Panel

The control panel of DigitalOcean is very simple and contains a lot of features. Not only you can manage your full server, but they also take care of hosting your DNS using CloudFlare's anycast network Big Grin

Suggestions

Not really. However I would like to have the ability to add/ remove storage and IPs.

Final Ratings
The VPS is very good. Not only for development, I also run a production environment there. I really want to pay for the server when I am out of free credit. It's totally worth it.

Final Rating 9/10

Special thanks to TrK, since I used his review as a "template" for mine.

Hey there fellows!
I want to let you know that Google created something called "Google Screenwise".
It allows you to earn money for each device you install it on. Just do some surfing a few times every week
on the devices and the money is yours! They collect data about your activity. Then you can redeem it in giftcards and paypal!
So far(after like 4 days). I have 14 bucks. It's my birthday today so I got a $5 bonus\week this month Wink

You can connect up to 3 different devices. 1 Computer, 1 Phone and 1 Tablet. (iOS or Android).
Then you just have to do some surfing on all the devices sometimes and you earn for it! Isn't that awesome?
_____________________________
For three devices: $3\week
For two Devices: $2\Week
For Only computer: $1\week
_____________________________
So, WHY NOT! It's so incredibly awesome! Just turn it off when you do private things and you're good to go ^^

YOU CAN TRUST THIS BTW! It's Google!

Make sure to choose that you're from USA. (If you're not, do that too).

Right now I'm doing an experiment on Windows 7 and WIndows 2012 trying to find which is best for using software under vmware. This is not a thread asking for  support or reviewing the provider. Just want to create a discussion about Windows servers so we can keep record information to used as a reference for anyone who need it.

I have deployed both servers and installed Firefox on both. Then restarted the servers. Here how both shows in control panel

So that's after installing Firefox. Im going to install social software in both and see how it effect the RAM and CPU. I will post stats from task manager once I install it in both.

One of the usual problems are Windows 2012 License problem. It would be interesting here if there are any methods to get 90-120 day activation. Windows 7 template seems doesn't have this problem.

Now I have installed Firefox and Social media bot in Windows 7 VPS and for some strange reason RAM usage is stuck around 1.55 GB. It doesn't matter if these applications are closed or option it stays around this. Of course it increases when I start using these applications but never decreases even when I close those all.

Well...I want to start my own webhosting company...currently we will be providing only VPSes. The VPSes will be KVM with https://www.virtkick.com/ Control Panel.
Currently I have thought of only one Plan:
$7 per month
2 GB RAM
100 GB HDD
1vCore
Unmetred Bandwidth @ 100 Mbit/s.

I need suggestions regarding the Control Panel and the pricing.

Hello,
Quote:This thread contains permissions from @Dynamo to be posted!
And @Dynamo knows that's I was SuperMario from Subnetweb.com !

And this OpenGamePanel guide is made at Subnetweb ( here ) and I've got permissions to copy and paste it here! (because it's all by me!)

EDIT: Subnetweb guide isn't good. and a lot of grammar mistakes! so let's fix'em here.

EDIT: guide successfully finished! if you have any more problems or questions please leave an reply.

So we'll start our guide with our sections!

Section One: Installation of OpenGamePanel (OGP) Web Interface

The most important section. because we'll control the main panel from it's web interface...

1. Updating our installed packages in our operating system...
Quote:--- For Debian & Ubuntu ---

apt-get -y update
2. Downloading the required packages for OpenGamePanel
Quote:wget http://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project...noarch.deb
3. Extracting the downloaded packages with "dpkg" ...
Quote:sudo dpkg -i ogp_panel-3199-1.noarch.deb

sudo apt-get -f install
4. Well done! Let's restart the webserver for more better quality (I don't know why this is required.. but I get more relax when I do it)
Quote:--- For Nginx webserver ---
sudo service nginx restart

--- For Apache webserver ---
sudo service apache2 restart
6. So.. everything is done now. but while installing OGP we'll need an database so let's create one!

OpenGamePanel package which we've installed in "Step 3" already install PhpMyAdmin (PMA) and get it's permissions problems fixed..

So go to http://[Your server IP]/phpmyadmin , and login with username "root" and the root password of your server.

Now.. Click on Privilegies and create an user and a database, and give Privilegies on this database to the created user.

7. Installing OpenGamePanel

Simply go to http://[Your server IP]/ and follow the steps.
[TIP]: Complete the installation process by using the user and database created on PHPMyAdmin, the host for MySQL is "localhost".

8. Setting permissions of the web caching data and deleting the installer of OGP for more security.

Quote:sudo chmod 644 /var/www/includes/config.inc.php
sudo rm -f /var/www/install.php
sudo chown -Rf www-data:www-data /var/www

Section Two: Installation of OpenGamePanel (OGP) Agent

So after finishing the web interface installation we must install the agent too.
Code:
Agent: the server controller which will get the access of the whole server into our OGP web interface!

1. Let's start our second section by downloading the agent files? OK.. let's do that Smile
Quote:wget http://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project...noarch.deb

2. So as the "web interface installation" .. we'll extract the agent packages using "dpkg" too!
Quote:sudo dpkg -i ogp_agent-3199-1.noarch.deb
sudo apt-get -f install

3. Now "OGP agent" requires "Libio Compress" which is an "Perl Script" .. so let's install it simply by typing this command:
Quote:sudo apt-get -y install libio-compress-perl

NOTICE for Ubuntu / Debian 64bit users!!! You have to do this step...

4. Configuring an "simple 32bit emulator"
(REASON): OGP agent never can run on 64bit versions... but this is an solution to fix this .. and you'll be able to run OGP agent on 64bit versions.
Quote:sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
(NOT NEEDED if you've already updated it!) sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1

5. So.. now simply let's start our newly installed "OGP Agent"
Quote:sudo service ogp_agent start

6. We've to do this step to let OGP agent have permissions to run on the operating system startup prefixes...
Quote:sudo update-rc.d ogp_agent defaults 30

7. Let's give permissions (as root) to the OGP agent services
Quote:sudo chown -Rf ogp_agent:ogp_agent /usr/share/ogp_agent

8. Now! Simply let's login to http://[Your server IP]/ and add our newly installed "OGP Agent" into the agents list.

Section Three: FTP errors's solutions

Cannot connect to (XX.XX.XX.XX) with username XXXXX.
this problem haven't got the easier solution for now! but I'll find the simplest solution and post it soon... !

Please check the details you entered is right
First create gameserver, and install it , then now click "FTP" at the page of the server you created. and click "Login" or "Connect" .

If not solved please do "Rsync Install" and try again.

Section Four: Game versions are very old

That's true! OpenGamePanel's rsync server never got updates to the gameservers.
Even the other rsync servers..

But... OpenGamePanel website already have an full guide to configure your own rsync server.
And in your new rsync server you can upload the latest game versions.

View OGP guide (to install rsync server)

EDIT: guide successfully finished! if you have any more problems or questions please leave an reply.

With best wishes and regards,

I'm having the Firefox freezing problem for a while now. Once I start FF, it keep building RAM quota and then freezes. Even if I close most of tab RAM doesn't decrease. This really driving me nuts.

I do have Chrome can't use that for some FF tasks. Also I have separate sets of Social accounts in both browsers. I wonder if this has to do with bookmarks. I have like 400 links there.
