Ordinarily I don't look at my points, but reason I was attentive is that I adjusted my points in my VPS application to reflect the posts and points at the end of my last posting session earlier today. So I knew I had 342 points at the end of my previous posting session.  Then when I started the present session I noticed it had dropped to 336.  My post number was the same so none of my posts have been removed.  Could it be that threads have been moved to different Forums?

I'm a very enthusiastic user of VestaCP so have been studying the VestaCP discussion thread about the issue.

In summary what happened was a wave of Servers were infected with /etc/cron.hourly/gcc.sh on 4th of April.  It was an automated hack.  The infection was platform independent meaning that all of the OSs were affected.  On April 7th the infected servers started to DDoS remote hosts using /usr/lib/libudev.so. The logical consequence was a large scale suspension of those VPSs.  All of it happened very fast. Those affected included smart users.  In other words geeks who were using all of the standard  precautions, security measures, keyless entries etc. So there is a theory that the issue could have originated with the VestaCP installation script.  That theory hasn't been proven yet.  However, until it does either way, those of us who are using VestaCP need to be careful with using it. 

In the meanwhile there is a patch available from VestaCP that users can use.  I'm on automatic updates with VestaCP and I always thought every one else was by default, so for those with automatic updates this patch should already have been loaded during 8th of April.  Here is a copy of the post about the patch:

Some information about this indecent. We still don't have working exploit for previous version. But we know for sure that the vector of attack was through a potentially unsecure password check method. Therefore we have completely rewrite password auth function. It's bullet proof now!

Looks as though there is a big change coming with the next design version of WordPress script 5.0.  It is expected to happen before the middle of the year.  It may be a good idea for those who are on automatic updates to change to manual as there may be a chance of conflicts, particularly for more sophisticated themes of WordPress with backend Editors.

The change is mostly affecting editing of blogs and posts.  Instead of having the classic menu on top of the post and blog windows, Wordpress is moving to an editing system of blocks.  When one hovers one's mouse over a section of the post then it brings up a little tool menu similar to what one finds with MS Word.  When you click on the tools it brings up a menu on the right hand side.  The script is available in Beta and a number of people who tried it thought there was lots of room for improvement.  Some complain about the fact one doesn't get a good ability to preview the  posts or pages.  It would also seem the more sophisticated the theme with editing tools on the backend, the greater the chance of conflicts making editing of pages and posts almost impossible to do.  So owners of themes will have to do plenty of changes.  Some plugins that have to do with editing will also have to be retooled.
