This topic has been inspired by @rudra's discussion in the Shoutbox about evil doers being able with WiFi to see "behind doors". Here's a copy of the MIT article he posted:
https://www.technologyreview.com/s/61237...e-thought/
I'd like to know what the safest alternatives are to WiFi. I know that routers by their design create signals so they can be used and shared within a comfortable radius any where in the house. An alternative is a line direct to one's computer. Are there members here who are working with WiFi alternatives, and what are they? Are there members who are still using modems?
Last year when I moved into my present accommodation I got an ADSL line, but they set me up with a router. I could probably have insisted I'd want a line to my computer only, but I'd battled so hard just to get Internet, I didn't want to interfere. Just been thinking though, maybe I could bypass the router, by plugging the line to the router direct into my computer instead? Like that would make me feel much more secure. Or maybe not - maybe I need a modem .... ?
Another thought for consideration and advice. All laptops networking include a list of all of the wireless systems in the area. Like they come up so one can choose among any of them. Is there a way one could mask one's WiFi connection so other laptops won't be able to see one's WiFi connection? Can one mask the connection so only you can see it?

I'd have liked to make a screenshot of what happened, but then it would have shown all of my files. Hopefully I can describe this issue as best as I can.
I seem to have two Status Panels in my FileZilla Dashboard - one at the top and the other at the bottom. The top Status Panel describes the downloads as they are being completed, and the bottom one shows percentages of progress while the files are being uploaded or downloaded - like an action panel.
Today I found that the percentages of progress in the bottom panel is completely out of sync with the top panel - while the status bar on top was continuing to provide a report of the downloads while they were ongoing, nothing was happening in the bottom panel - I actually got a little worried when there were no percentages rolling over in the bottom panel thinking there may be a problem.
Finally after the last report in the top panel (below) the bottom panel started to roll the percentages which of course is even more perplexing, since the top panel said the transfer had been successful - what is now happening in the bottom panel?
I'm now worried to close Filezilla maybe it could create an error of sorts? Or can I go ahead and close it any way? At the time of writing, this is what is happening in the bottom panel - according to the bottom panel download was still not completed (although in top status and according to my downloaded files it has been completed):

Hello guys,
I've noticed a new game panel called "pterodactyl", it seems to be a clean panel.
So lets talk about it here
My question is:
Does it support SAMP/MTA servers?

HostUS VPS (Unmanaged Linux OpenVZ) Review (Jan to Dec 2018)
Introduction
I discovered HostUS for the first time after I joined freevps.us in February 2016 and have had this cheap category HostUS VPS from February 2016 until today. I'm currently on a year rental until August 2019.
What I like about Hostus is its excellent support, fast speed, low prices, HostUS.us knows how to create great VPSs that are cost effective and affordable. They don't have fancy marketing schemes - what you see is what you get.
HostUS used to be a sponsor of a number of excellent spec VPSs at FreeVPS.us until FreeVPS.us came to an end on 31 May 2018. I have the cheapest VPS Plan in the Hostus Unmanaged OpenVZ Category. Here are the specs of my VPS:
Disk Size: 20 GB
Monthly Traffic: 500 GB
Memory: 768 MB & 768 MB vSwap
IP Addresses: 1x IPv4 & /4 IPv6
Virtualization: OpenVZ
Location: London, UK
Control Panel: SolusVM
Connection: 1 Gbit/s
Cost of the VPS is US$ 7.95 for three months or 2.60 US$ per month. If one takes a year subscription it will be even less.
I've had this particular VPS since January 2018 after the previous identical VPS had a meltdown. I had the previous identical VPS from February 2016 to end of 2017. I'm currently on a year renewal until August 2019 and intend to keep this VPS as long as it lasts. HostUS has a great track record of stability, with a bunch of Admin like Alexander and Leo who have been consistently around since the beginning of time.
The quality of VPSs from hostus.us since February 2016 when I first got to learn about them has been consistently great. If you check the hostus.us link you'll notice it has a long list of locations in the US, Europe and Far East - you can try them out for speed. My ISP performs best with the London Location, and I was very lucky to get the location. I've had this location since January 2018.
Before January 2018 I've also had a free VPS from Host.us at freevps.us. VPS 16. One of the best performing VPSs in their stable - although without a control panel. Never gave problems however, so didn't need a control panel.
Every paid HostUS VPS Includes:
- Breeze VPS Control Panel
- A range of OS templates
- Full VPN Support (TUN/TAP, PPP, IPsec)
- Second Level Quotas Support
- Native IPv6 Support
- 24/7 Technical Support
- cPanel license discounts (learn more)
HostUS.us
As far as I could learn from their excellent Website, HostUS was founded in 2012 as a Limited Liability Company operating out of Delaware, United States. It offers a diverse selection of web hosting services ranging from low cost Shared cPanel hosting to OpenVZ VPSes to large dedicated servers. HostUS works towards affordable rates all of the time - with very little wastage. Its focus is on what it does best, which are Linux servers - as far as I know Hostus doesn't provide Windows VPSs. It has ten global locations with emphasis on the US. My location is London, UK, perhaps the fastest location I've had yet by Europe standards.
Here is a link to its VPS Plan Selector which is hooked to all of the locations together with mirror IPs so that you can see the cost of the VPS immediately and test the speed from your ISP to the test IP - everything is set up to be simple, what you see is absolutely what you get. No smart catch you if we can type marketing strategies.

Speed has always been important to me, particularly when HostUS was only able to offer US locations when I got my first VPS from them in 2016. I had one from Dallas location, and it wasn't that bad in 2016. However towards end of 2017 the speed was not as good as it should be, so when a rare double disk failure completely obliterated my VPS in early January 2018, I was very happy to be able to change my location to England, UK. During 2017 HostUS expanded its locations to go completely global - including Europe and the Far East. Here are some of the speed tests that I took of the HostUS VPS under review spanning January 2018 when I first took occupation of the VPS to date:
Here is a speed test that was taken on 28 January 2018 from South Africa:

Breeze Control Panel
All of the HostUS servers come with its in-house developed Breeze Panel. It's one of the better panels I've experienced, definitely a few steps up Virtualizor - although probably shouldn't be compared as the panel is also part of the client management system that includes the billing and invoices. I've seen the Breeze Panel continously improved from February 2016 when I first started with HostUS to date. In the beginning the billing was a headache for me as I was living in the UAE with a dynamic IP shared with spammers, and HostUS had an agent who rejected me all of the time. But since 2017 payments have been effortless and they perfected their billing system. The support tickets are also done through the Breeze Panel and turn around in tickets is super fast, like definitely within 12 hours max, and more often within hours of submitting the ticket.
What impresses me too with the Breeze Panel is its security system where it helps clients to change their port numbers and to make keyless access to the VPSs. Here is a print screen of their security page in the Breeze Panel:
![[Image: eChtp0e.png]](https://i.imgur.com/eChtp0e.png)
Usage
I've been using my HostUS VPSs since 2016 for projects that are higher risk - experimenting - and as a backup VPS to my freevps.us and post4vps.com VPSs. I'm a little more conservative and perhaps even over careful about the use of my free VPSs from freevps and post4vps as would hate to be responsible for anything going wrong with them. Furthermore I currently don't have a control panel with my VPS 9, so would hate to bother the Admin for reloading the OS. With my HostUs VPS I'm more adventurous and have gone through a few times already of reloading my VPS. With the Breeze Panel of HostUS it's also very effortless - takes less than two minutes for the new OS to be loaded.
In addition to the HostUS Breeze Panel that also gives me all the info I need regarding my use of resources, I have installed VestaCP on my VPS to manage the DNS of my Websites and WordPress sites. I have a paid Softaculous loaded with my VestaCP and am able to set up WordPress under 2 minutes. One of my projects is to find how I can load VestaCP and my WordPress sites in the shortest amount of time including backups. Also how to manage the content of a VPS as portable as I can - i.e. with VPS I've learned that they can go up in smoke in record time.
Things to Improve
To be honest, I don't know how one could improve on this low cost VPS. Like the speed is faster than my high spec VPS 9. Performance wise there was that double disk failure of January 2018 when my VPS went up in smoke, but the Admin of Hostus.us went to a lot of trouble to make me happy - including changing my US location to England, UK resulting in one of the fastest speeds I've had yet. Even by European standards. I guess all I can wish for is for HostUS to continue to thrive and to be around for more years to come.
Conclusion
I'm more than happy with my Hostus VPS. For the low price that doesn't seem to make any difference to their very high standards - like it's the same high quality product, just with less specs.
I want to extend a special note of appreciation to the Admin of hostus.us for their super support and hope that this will continue to last as it has already lasted since 2012.
A special thank you too to all of the helping hands at post4vps that make my experience at the Forum and with this VPS so positive. It's been great fun and am listening and learning every day!
Hello Guys,
This tutorial would be a short tutorial on how you can change the minecraft server version of your server through the control panel provided to you by the host.
Now it depends on the host, sometimes they give you the option to select the version you need to choose, but sometimes you will just end up with the latest version, which might not be the one you required. In our example, I'll be showing examples from pterodactyl panel, however for other control panels with FTP access the process should be somewhat similar.
1) Figure out which server version you're looking for, Ever since MC 1.9 came out, people have resorted themselves to different version of MC, some keeping to 1.7.10/1.8 for its better pvp system, some upgrading to the latest one, and now that 1.13 is out, It has significant changes so alot of servers still prefer to stay on 1.12 for the time being.
If you are not sure which version you want to go with, you can take a look at the plugins you are looking to use, and decide the common version with which they all are compatible, their compatibility will usually be written on their title or like this
![[Image: d45dd260f1cc95ce3fae3be33d3fecc5.png]](https://i.gyazo.com/d45dd260f1cc95ce3fae3be33d3fecc5.png)
(The plugin is not owned by me, just a reference)
As you can see, the tested minecraft versions line shows all the version it is compatible with, If you are still unsure you can also take feedback from your community as to which version they'd prefer to play on.
2) Once you've chosen the version, you need to download the server jar file for it. There are several types of repositories available for minecraft version, Default, Bukkit, Spigot, TacoSpigot, PaperSpigot, Waterfall, Sponge etc, I can't go into much detail of the different forks, but each of them focus on a specific gameplay element of Minecraft, the one I would suggest going with is either PaperSpigot(if ur server is a faction/raiding type) or spigot.
You can get spigot versions from this site, https://getbukkit.org/download/spigot
Once there, you just need to "Download" the server jar file according to the version you've chosen.(Make sure you download it, dont click on "Create a server" option)
3) After downloading the server jar file, you will have something like this in your downloads folder,
![[Image: 18a37fb86475e872ee4a2b28949f3012.png]](https://i.gyazo.com/18a37fb86475e872ee4a2b28949f3012.png)
Now make sure that you rename it to server.jar as that is what most control panels are designed to load as default.
(also make sure that the extension remains .jar, you just need to change the name, not the extension)
4) Now your version is ready to use, you need to head over to your control panel and find an option where It can let you access the the server directory through FTP.
In Pterodactyl panel, you will find an option like below on the left side of the screen,
![[Image: 35fb164c2a3c4a2f16c1aca040ed7637.png]](https://i.gyazo.com/35fb164c2a3c4a2f16c1aca040ed7637.png)
You need to click on file management which will redirect you to something like this,
![[Image: d6ddc0b930ab6d03f2b44f0e5ad77c68.png]](https://i.gyazo.com/d6ddc0b930ab6d03f2b44f0e5ad77c68.png)
Now as mentioned before, you need to change the file named server.jar, makesure you stop your server and backup before attempting this just incase something goes wrong.
MAKE SURE THE SERVER IS TURNED OFF
After shutting the server down, right click the file and click on delete, then
![[Image: 99d9b6d4cb9a34e0038d40a48c291cdc.png]](https://i.gyazo.com/99d9b6d4cb9a34e0038d40a48c291cdc.png)
click the blue arrow button on the extreme right side to upload your custom server jar file.
Uploading can takeawhile, depending on your upload speed, so make sure you dont close your browser until the uploading completes successfully.
5) Once the file is uploaded successfully, make sure that all your plugins are compatible with the version you chose, I know I already mentioned this earlier but all plugins need to be compatible with the version you chose otherwise they will not run and can break your server immensely especially if its not whitelisted.
Once you're sure the plugins are all up to date, you can run the server again and join it ingame to make sure everything's working as it should.
Voila you have successfully changed your server version.

So this last weekend I was struggling to find the right command for using Hidden's Benchmark script. That was quite an eventful experience as when I searched for it, freevps.us was offline. I was unable to get a command at his Github page for Benchmark 2.0 - maybe it was there but I missed it? So Rudra finally helped me with the following command that can also be found in Hidden's freevps.us thread about Benchmark 2.0:
I now have a question. If you check his thread he has abbreviated codes such as this one:
How do I add that code into the main command line?
Code:
wget --no-check-certificate https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hidden-refuge/bench-sh-2/master/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null | bashI now have a question. If you check his thread he has abbreviated codes such as this one:
Code:
./bench.sh -bHow do I add that code into the main command line?
